A 1-0 win over Verona last Sunday was a historic moment for Torino as it marked their first run of three consecutive away Serie A (SA) wins without conceding since March 1970. Ivan Jurić’s site may no longer be in contention to qualify for Europe, but a chance to post their best top-flight finish since the 2018/19 campaign should serve as a good enough incentive to keep their momentum going.

As they face off against a Fiorentina side who they are locked on 49 points, Torino knows a win here would boost their chances of finishing the season as ‘best of the rest’ outside the top seven. Their recent home form needs immediate attention though, as the hosts have failed to win at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino in their last five matches there (D2, L3). Four of those games interestingly saw Torino concede first, and with three of those goals arriving within the first ten minutes, the home fans ought to be wary of another slow start.

Fiorentina needed a 129th-minute goal to win 3-1 in extra-time against Basel and reach the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) final (aggregate: 4-3) on Thursday. Coach Vincenzo Italiano spoke of the “immense hunger to reach the final”, but his side will have to quickly regroup from that Switzerland trip to keep their league form on track, after a 2-0 win against Udinese last weekend was just their second SA win across seven games (D3, L2).

As if their UECL campaign wasn’t distracting enough, the Tuscans will also have one eye on the upcoming Coppa Italia final against Inter Milan, a trophy they last won in 2001. A win here could be perfect preparation for that match, but to secure that feat they will have to halt a three-game winless away streak in the league (D1, L2), but with just a single victory across their last ten away SA H2Hs (D5, L4), that certainly isn’t a guarantee.
