Argentina's Facundo Isa and Marcos Kremer celebrate after the match on 18 October 2023.

After almost two months of intense competition, Argentina and England will go head-to-head one final time in the 2023 Rugby World Cup on Friday 27 October at Stade de France in the Bronze Final.

These two emerged from Pool D and made it through their quarter-final tests before Los Pumas were quite convincingly beaten by the All Blacks in the semis, while England lost in agonizingly close fashion to the Springboks.

Argentina kicked off their 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign against this opponent in week one, and despite going in as favourites, they suffered a 27-10 defeat in one of their weakest performances of the year.

In fairness, Los Pumas were never truly firing on all cylinders in any of their group stage wins over Samoa, Chile and Japan, but they certainly stepped things up in what was undisputedly the highlight of the tournament for them - beating Wales 29-17 in the quarterfinals.

However, last week against the All Blacks, the quality of the opponent took a major step up, and while not many had given Argentina much chance of winning, few could have foreseen such a one-sided contest.

Michael Cheika's side managed some promising phases in the first half, but their defensive vulnerabilities were clear to see, and the All Blacks eventually took control of the match to cruise past them into the final.

While playing for third is difficult to get excited about, the South Americans will embrace the chance to gain revenge for their opening defeat. If they can focus on dominating the scrum and minimizing errors, they'll be in with an excellent shot at matching their best-ever World Cup finish.

If the All Blacks' 28-24 win over Ireland and the Springboks' 29-28 victory to knock out the hosts go down as a couple of the greatest matches ever, then last week's semi between England and the Boks certainly deserves a place right up there too.

England, not tipped by many, delivered a remarkably strong showing against the defending champs, asserting dominance in various facets of the game. Most would agree they were quite unlucky to suffer a gutting one-point loss.

Despite going in as underdogs, England executed their game plan flawlessly, with precise kicking and intense scrummaging while also keeping the scoreboard pressure on the Boks throughout.

However, as has happened a few times already this tournament, the changes made in the Bok pack proved decisive, forcing the Red Roses into conceding penalties, with the last giving Handre Pollard the chance to send the holders into the final - which he duly converted.

Steve Borthwick's side clinched victory against this opponent in week one thanks to a special display from George Ford, who kicked all 27 points in the match to get a 14-man England off to a winning start. But with the pressure now off and based on the alterations made, we should see a lot more running rugby in this one.

๐Ÿ’ก Match Prediction:

Based on past head-to-head records, England are the favorites, having won 20 of the 26 previous encounters. They also won the most recent match-up 27-10. However, Argentina will be motivated to avenge their opening loss and secure their best-ever World Cup finish. If their forwards can dominate the scrums and breakdowns, they are in with a good chance. England made wholesale changes to their starting XV which may disrupt cohesion slightly. But the fresh legs could work in their favour. This one is hard to predict but I'll go with a narrow England win.

Final Prediction: England by 3-7 points

Betting Tips:

  • England to win: 1.73
  • Point spread England -3.5: 1.91
  • Over/under 46.5 points: Over
