Cadiz CF vs Osasuna - Match Preview

⚽ 25 April 2023 - 17:30 GMT +0

Cádiz manager Sergio will be hoping Victor Chust’s return to fitness can inspire his injury-hit side to survive what has so far been a difficult La Liga (LL) season. The Yellow Submarine have been besieged by an ever-growing list of absentees, which Fali joined last Friday when limping off with a hamstring problem in a 0-0 draw against Espanyol. He was replaced by Chust, who Sergio believes gives the side a “feeling of strength.”

That opinion is certainly backed up by the statistics, as the former Real Madrid man has lost just one of his last eight league appearances for Cadiz (W2, D5). He will now be hoping they can end a run of three games without a victory on home soil (D1, L2), where they have conceded a couple of goals in each fixture, whilst failing to net in the last two.

History suggests that poor form may be extended by visitors Osasuna, who have a staggering 11 wins from the last 13 meetings between the two sides (D1, L1) across all competitions. The visitors will certainly be hoping to channel that record in their pursuit of what could be just their second victory from their last ten away league outings (D5, L3).

Despite the dearth of victories, Jagoba Arrasate’s side have proven tough to beat on the road, with their total of seven away draws the highest of all LL clubs at the end of the last round. They also registered a fine 3-2 victory at home to Real Betis on Saturday, after which the boss claimed his side is “going to live for something historic” as they remain on course for a third top-half finish in their last four seasons.

📋 Players to watch: Cádiz midfielder Fede San Emeterio is hoping to build upon a record of three home wins from five clashes with Osasuna (D1, L1). Looking to ruin that record will be striker Ante Budimir, whose brace against Betis on Saturday means he has lost just two of his last dozen goalscoring appearances for Osasuna (W7, D3).

Hot stat: There has been only one goal scored during the opening 15 minutes in Osasuna’s away games this season, the lowest total in LL.

Girona vs Real Madrid - Match Preview

⚽ 25 April 2023 - 17:30 GMT +0

Girona’s four-game La Liga (LL) unbeaten run (W2, D2) ended on Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 by Valladolid in a blow to their chances of qualifying for European football for the first time in their history. Perhaps a more realistic target is eclipsing their best-ever top-flight finish of tenth in 2017/18, with their next assignment a Real Madrid side against whom they’ve fared well recently (W1, D1, L1).

While they lost the last two home H2Hs despite scoring on both occasions, draws away to both Barcelona (0-0) and Real Madrid (1-1) in this term suggest they could yet have some influence on the title race. While it’s encouraging that Girona has lost only one of their last five home LL fixtures (W4), that defeat was against a club from the capital, via a 1-0 loss to Atlético.

Real Madrid did their bit to keep LL’s title race alive by beating Celta Vigo 2-0 on Saturday - their fourth consecutive game to have finished in their favour with that scoreline - only for Barcelona to restore their 11-point advantage on Sunday. Madrid taking the lead and keeping it again came as no surprise as they’ve lost only two LL matches this season after scoring the opening goal (W17, D2).

Mixed away form since November has been a key factor in Los Blancos falling so far behind Barcelona (W4, D1, L4), which is a far cry from when they began their league campaign with six consecutive victories on the road. Recent campaigns suggest they should finish strongly, as when including only their final four away trips of a LL season, Madrid has lost just one of their last 12 fixtures away from the Bernabéu (W8, D3).

📋 Players to watch: Taty Castellanos opened the scoring before half-time in two of Girona’s last four home league fixtures, while Madrid’s Marco Asensio has netted in three of their last four LL games, including twice between the 70th and 80th minute.

Hot stat: Girona’s home LL games have produced the second-highest average of total goals per game (3.07) in the division.
