Wang Xinyu has been all over the place. She has lost the first round in five of her last six tournaments, including to world No. 218 Jaimee Fourlis in Berlin in her only grass-court preparation. At the same time, the 21-year-old has made the semifinal in Hua Hin, the quarterfinal in Hobart, and the third rounds in Indian Wells and Roland-Garros.

Five years ago, the world #71 won the doubles junior title at Wimbledon and made the semifinal in singles. She was able to make her professional debut at the venue in the 2021 edition but bowed out to Sofia Kenin in the first round, and returned to SW19 with a 3-2 record in slam first-round matches since the start of 2022.

Storm Hunter is generally known as a successful doubles specialist, proven by her WTA 1000 titles in Rome and Guadalajara, and a 2022 US Open mixed crown. It seems she is translating some of her confidence into the singles game. The Australian has won 19 of her last 23 matches, though it includes the ITF qualifying level.

The doubles world No. 6 won her first singles title since October 2019 at W60 Burnie in February, followed by a W100 Charleston quarterfinal and a second-round finish at Roland-Garros as a qualifier. She had to beat Nuria Parrizas-Diaz from a set down in the French capital to overcome her then 0-7 slam first-round win-loss.
